According to a member of the National Safety Council, falls
are the leading causes of unintentional injuries in the United States and
account for nearly 9 million visits to the emergency room every year. Chances
are, you know someone who has slipped or fallen and chances are that they are
over 55 years old. In 2009, slips and falls accounted for 25,000 deaths in the
US. As a business owner, you have the responsibility to do your part to prevent
these needless injuries.
Falls can happen anywhere;
- Doorways
- Ramps
- Stairs
- Ladders
- Hallways
Some of these falls are unavoidable, but one thing is for
sure; we can do our best to help stop falls from wet floors.
Spills happen all the time and it’s important to clean them
up as soon as possible. Whether it’s a sticky soft drink or slick ice cream, a
bad fall due to an unattended spill can cost your business big. Every business
should have a spill kit handy so accidents can be taken care of quickly. And even
before the spill is cleaned up, it is imported to post wet
floor signs in the area to alert others about the potential danger.
Keep your wet floor signs posted until after the area is dry
and you feel comfortable allowing others to walk in the area. Make sure your
wet floor signs are visible from any vantage point. This will protect not only
you, but people in your building as well.
You can never be too safe, so having an adequate supply of wet
floor signs, mobs, buckets and other important items in a spill kit is a
must, especially if you have tile or wood floors in your business.
With such a focus on safety, taking every precaution is what
people have come to expect from business owners and the janitorial staff. Go
above and beyond, making sure everyone’s safety is your top priority!
